This course origination at Bethel High School in 2006. I originally co-taught this course with a colleague, Sabrina Schongalla. I have since taken this course and taught it on my own, both in a classroom and online. It has been changed and added to over the years.
In this unit, you will learn the art of telling your own story. After reading another's autobiography, you will tell a short story from your own life.
Get ready to bend the truth! This unit will cover short fiction writing, including an opportunity to start with something really, and embellish your way into pure fiction.
Now that you've bent the truth, it's time to bend reality. In this chapter you will explore society through the genre of Science Fiction (Sci Fi) or Fantasy.
In this chapter, you will be making a small book of poetry. As usual, you will be begin by analyzing a pice of poetry. You will then be guided through five poetry exercise which will form half of your poetry book. You will then draft five poems of your own choosing. Take a risk and try a form of poetry you are not as accustomed to! If you usually rhyme your poetry, try not rhyming. If you normally don't have a structure, try a versed or concrete poem.

In this short unit you'll get to build a metaphor by making a cookbook for an inanimate object.
Ever wondered about a celebrity's real life? Well, in this unit, you get to try and step into his or her shoes by writing a fictional story from your favorite celebrity's point of view!
Do you like fairytales? Well, in this unit, you'll get to turn one on it's head by re-writing it's ending.
Creative writing is not always about just words. Comics are a form of writing too. Did you know the Adventures of Tintin have more SAT words in them than many popular novels? Comics are a fascinating art, and we'll step into that art in this unit.
